The Beaches Are Waiting
A day at the beach is probably most appealing to the most diverse groups of people. Offering something that appeals to all ages, you can spend your toes in the sand time building sandcastles with the toddlers and tweens, learning to surf with dad and the teens, or simply sitting under a colorful umbrella with your own mom who deserves this vacation and so much more, sipping tropical beverages, chatting, and letting the serenity of the sea work its magic on your soul. The lure of a beach day is one that will never release its hold on you and other than a little crankiness from the tiniest of travelers when it is time to pack up the buckets and shovels and return home, every moment at the beach will be the happiest one!
Shaved Ice for Everyone
Ice cream is, of course, a wonderful treat on a warm summer’s day and you can choose to visit any of the shops in town if you like, but shaved ice is a Hawaiian tradition that needs to be experienced at least once during your stay! Surfing Monkey Shave Ice, 1881 S Kihei Road in Kihei, offers a fun name, the aloha vibe, and so many flavors we think it offers the perfect authentic Maui experience. Plus, it stays open late (until 9 PM), so it can also be a great after dinner treat.
Old Lahaina Luau, 1251 Front Street in Lahaina
We’ve said it before and we will probably end up saying it a million times more, if you come to Maui and don’t attend a luau, you can’t really consider you’ve authentically visited our island paradise. The Old Lahaina Luau is a favorite offering leis, a traditional 5-course meal, hula, fire dancing, and a cultural extravaganza that will make you fall in love with Hawaii all over again. This luau is a treat for all the senses and is an experience that has to be enjoyed to be believed.
Molokini Snorkeling Tour, Pride of Maui
Although the idea of scuba diving is an exciting one, it does require expensive training and certifications, and honestly, you can enjoy similar experiences by snorkeling, on your own or with the Pride of Maui and their Molokini Snorkeling Tour. The Molokini Crater is a sunken volcanic cinder cone which has become a sort of not so artificial reef system where all the fish congregate and the five-hour tour is one your entire family will never forget, especially because if you can swim, you can snorkel. The Road to Hana
Although car rides can be kryptonite for the kiddos, the road to Hana offers many opportunities to stop, take pictures, visit waterfalls, and explore hidden beaches, so we are pretty sure this is an activity that will appeal to all. The road starts in the town of Kahului and winds along 64.4 miles of the most breathtaking landscape Maui has to offer, ending in the historic town of Hana, and although you could probably do in just a morning, we recommend taking the entire day, and really exploring all the road has to offer. You won’t regret it, we promise!
