The holidays are our favorite time of year on Maui, offering all the color, the fun, and the excitement you expect for your celebration, just without all the cold, ice, and gloom that you may be used to! The weather on Maui is pretty predictable, offering gorgeously warm sunny days, and even though December is our wettest month, an idyllic getaway you will never forget. Because summer may seem like a distant memory where you come from, we at Maui Life Realty have prepared this guide to what you should pack for your holiday Maui getaway, ensuring that your style will not be compromised and your happiness will be contagious!

Book a Maui Stay Here!

No Need for the Weather Apps

Not all of us at Maui Life Realty have spent our entire lives on this island paradise. Some of us are just like you, having lived a life of dependency on the popular weather apps. Is it going to rain today? Are there tornadoes in our forecast? Will that ice storm we read about be a real concern? Those are all questions from our past, because on Maui, the temps rarely change, offering daylight highs in the 70s and nighttime lows in the 60s year round! And although it does rain a little more in December than most other months, if you toss a waterproof jacket in your bag, you can consider yourself prepared!

Do Not Forget Your Swimsuits

Swimming at Christmas, is that even a thing? On Maui, it is very much a thing, and whether you choose an afternoon dip in the crystal-clear waters of the seas that surround our island home or prefer to laze about in the private or community pool of the rental you have chosen, you will be very unhappy if you don’t add a swimsuit to your luggage. You also might want to consider packing a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a beach cover-up, ensuring that the only red you will see during your stay will be in the holiday decorations, not in the skin that covers your body. Flip flops, water shoes, and at least one pair of walking shoes will be all that is needed in the shoe department, and if you splurge on hiking sandals, you can eliminate one other pair!

Shorts and T-Shirts

Although you may want to include one pair of jeans (perfect for travel or cooler nights), your wardrobe will mainly consist of shorts and tees, smaller items of clothing that won’t take up much space in your suitcase (leaving plenty of room for souvenirs on your return trip). Casual is key on Maui, and isn’t it wonderful that you can watch tree lighting ceremonies in your favorite summer clothing, having left all of the heavy stuff behind? That waterproof jacket we mentioned earlier may come in handy for your nighttime adventures, as the temperatures do get a tad chilly, but no gloves, winter hats, or puffer jackets will be needed!

Your Best Island Wear

We hope that during your stay you will take the time to attend an authentic Hawaiian luau. The Myths of Maui Luau is one of the island’s oldest and most authentic, and of course, when you do attend, you want to wear your best island wear. Hawaiian shirts aren’t just something dreamed up by writers on television shows, they really do exist, and the ease of Amazon can enable you to buy something suitably festive to wear for the occasion. If your holiday of choice is Christmas, did you know that you can even buy Christmas style Hawaiian shirts and dresses from the site?

Of course, some of the fun of vacationing is shopping for souvenirs. What better souvenir is there than an authentic Hawaiian style outfit? Perhaps something from Tommy Bahama, located at 2435 Kaanapali Parkway C-1 in Lahaina, will turn out to be your most favorite souvenir of all! If you want something a little more sophisticated than the standard shirt and dress, a visit to Tori Richard in Whaler’s Village will offer the perfect elegant Hawaiian themed ensemble.

The Extras

It isn’t just clothing you will need to pack for your visit, and although you can purchase goggles and snorkels, a waterproof phone carrying case, and a disposable underwater camera pretty much anywhere on Maui, purchasing these items ahead of time and packing them in your luggage can end up saving you money. Most of our properties will offer some sort of beach closet stocked with chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, and towels, so you can leave those at home, but these other items won’t take up much space in your case and can add to the wonder and whimsy of your Maui holiday vacation experience.
